From 12 June to 16 June 2022, the Optica Foundation’s Innovation School took a group of aspiring entrepreneurs (and intrapreneurs) through an immersive experience focused on how a great technology idea goes from concept to business pitch. Participants in the four-day “boot camp”-like experience sharpened their appreciation of idea generation, customer discovery, and the language, culture and methods of the entrepreneurial scene—and learned how to put those things into action to drive forward their own entrepreneurial vision.
The 2022 installment marked the fifth anniversary of the Innovation School. It was also the first in several years that took place in person (at Optica Global Headquarters in Washington, DC, USA) after the disruptions of the pandemic. A story in the June issue of Optica’s Optics & Photonics News profiled the school and featured the insights of its facilitator, serial entrepreneur Erik Koester, and others who have benefited from the experience offered by the school. “We try to teach a lot of the principles that aren’t necessarily about starting a company,” says Koester. “It’s about learning how to innovate.” |
