“Course correcting” an optics career |
In the March 2021 issue of OPN, OSA Early Career Member Fernando Diaz offers a personal account of his journey from academia to industry, in which he describes how he became one of the first employees at Australian lidar startup, Baraja. Along the way, he reports, he learned the value of continually being open to midcourse corrections in your career track. “After committing several missteps in my own career journey, I’ve come to believe that altering course can be the best move, even if it’s hard,” says Diaz. “Don’t be scared to alter your course when the time comes.”
Other recent content in OPN’s Careers channel includes a report on a new survey that investigated the impact of the switch to digital instruction in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and a story on another study documenting how reforming immigration policies for non-U.S. STEM doctorates could benefit the U.S. economy and boost innovation. |
