OPN in 2020: What Did You Read?
Some of the most-popular articles online in 2020 for OSA’s Optics & Photonics News (OPN) included the magazine’s annual special feature Year in Optics, which highlighted 30 exciting peer-reviewed research summaries from the past year, and a June cover feature article on structured light that explored the emerging toolkit that’s enabling the shaping of light for a wide variety of applications. Nanophotonic Biosensors: Driving Personalized Medicine also topped the OPN charts—this very timely feature described how point-of-care photonic biosensors could provide better-targeted health care.

In its online news section, OPN’s most-read articles tackled the ever-moving target of the coronavirus pandemic. Readers gravitated toward content on how optics and photonics technologies are being used in the battle against COVID-19, how lasers are testing facemask effectiveness, and how individual labs and researchers coped with the onset of the pandemic, in OPN’s “Coronavirus Diaries” series.
