Siegman International School on Lasers

From 2-7 August, 82 international students and 10 distinguished invited speakers from more than 28 countries attended the Siegman International School on Lasers. The week-long program, held at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, exposed students to in-depth learning of lasers and photonics in both basic research and applications. Topics ranged from different types of lasers such as ultrashort pulse (fibre) lasers, disk lasers, semiconductor lasers and large-scale research facilities such as the Free Electron Laser to biomedical applications such as optical super-resolution microscopy and optical sensors on a chip.

The annual program was established in honor of the late laser pioneer, Anthony E. "Tony" Siegman. Siegman made significant contributions to the scientific community and inspired many students through his passion for teaching.

The 2016 Siegman School, 7 – 12 August, will be hosted by ICFO Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona, Spain.
