Register today for a 2015 IONS conference. Connect with students and luminaries from around the world.

The Optical Society is a proud sponsor of seven International OSA Network of Students (IONS) conferences in 2015 to be located in Germany, China, USA, Mexico, Tunisia, Spain and New Zealand. IONS conferences are organized for students, by students who are part of the most active chapters and feature technical programming, chapter management and cultural content. Upcoming Award Nominations Deadlines

Paul F. Forman Team Engineering Excellence Award
To recognize teams who have made major contributions in optical engineering, OSA presents the Engineering Team of Excellence Awards. Nominations for the 2015 award are due July 2, 2015. More information is available on-line. 

John Tyndall Award
Co-sponsored with IEEE/Photonics Society, the John Tyndall Award is presented annually to a single individual who has made outstanding contributions in any area of optical-fiber technology, including optical fibers themselves, the optical components used in fiber systems, as well as transmission systems and networks using fibers.  The nomination deadline for the 2016 award is 10 August 2015.   Obtain form and submit all nomination material to IEEE Photonics Society.

Herbert Walther Award
The Hebert Walther Award recognizes distinguished contributions in quantum optics and atomic physics as well as leadership in the international scientific community.  The award is co-sponsored with Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) and nominations for the 2016 award should be submitted to DPG Office by 1 September 2015.

Attend the Optical Material Studies Technical Group Event at Advanced Photonics

Join the Optical Material Studies Technical Group at Advanced Photonics for a networking reception! Benjamin Anderson of Washington State University, an invited speaker at the Novel Optical Materials and Applications topical meeting, will be collaborating with the group to host this reception and give you a chance to connect with your fellow attendees, exchange ideas, and network. Refreshments will be served during the reception, which will take place on 30 June 2015 at 4:00 PM EDT in the King Room of the Omni Parker House Hotel.

On Tuesday, 23 June 2015, the Nanophotonics Technical Group  will be hosting a free webinar entitled “Silicon Electronic Photonic Integrated Circuits (SiEPIC) Research Training.”  Register today to join Lukas Chrostowski, Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia, as he discusses the various research training programs, including workshops and online courses, available to members of the silicon photonics community through the Silicon Electronic Photonic Integrated Circuits (Si-EPIC) program.

The Optical Metrology Technical Group will be hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, 1 July 2015 at 11:00 AM EDT. This webinar will feature a presentation from Dr. Larry Thibos, who will provide an introduction to image quality metrics, as well as a presentation from Dr. Curtis Menyuk, who will discuss the importance of quantitative modeling of comb sources. CLEO Pacific Rim 2015: Registration Now Open

The 11th Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO Pacific Rim) will take place this year in Korea. You are encouraged to take advantage of early bird rates by registering before 1 July. The conference will include a special International Year of Light program featuring lectures from OSA Vice-President, Eric Mazur and 2014 Nobel Physics Laureate, Hiroshi Amano among others.

OSA members are invited to submit papers to the 2015 OSA/JSAP Joint English-language Symposia to be held during the JSAP Autumn meeting. OSA’s partner, the IEEE Photonics Society, has launched a new website to promote the Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT).  Similar to the JLT content on OSA Publishing, the IEEE Photonics Society website provides links to all published articles, key data about the Journal, the Top Downloaded articles, as well as author resources and guidelines.
