Frontiers in Optics 2013—A Successful First Stop on OSA's Journey to 2016
Frontiers in Optics/Laser Science 2013 concluded in sunny Orlando, Florida, after five days of in-depth technical and business programming, engaging exhibits and collaborative events. The industry’s leading experts spoke on the latest research and applications of optical technologies including hot topics such as biomedical optics, silicon photonics, fiber optics, lasers, hybrid integrated photonics, and more.
This was OSA’s first stop on the road to celebrating its 100th Anniversary in Rochester, New York, USA in 2016. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s conference in Tucson, Arizona, USA, 19-23 October 2014.

Student Leadership Conference at FiO
On October 6th, 184 students kicked off FiO/LS with the 12th annual Student Leadership Conference, representatives came from 173 chapters and 42 countries. Highlights included welcome remarks from OSA CEO Liz Rogan, a keynote presentation from OSA Treasurer Steve Fantone and an International Year of Light presentation from Past President Anthony Johnson.

Nomination Deadline Extended for the Edwin H. Land Medal
OSA and the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) have extended the nomination deadline for the 2014 Land Medal to 4 November 2013. The Land Medal was established in 1992 to honor Edwin H. Land to recognize his unique career as scientist, technologist, industrialist, humanist and public servant. This medal recognizes pioneering work empowered by scientific research to create inventions, technologies, and products. The recipient should share Land’s insatiable scientific intensity and curiosity in optics and imaging and, in part, reflect his image as inventor, scientist, entrepreneur, and teacher.
