Internal Qualification Standards for Chalcogenide Glasses According to ISO 19740, 19741, and 19742

When it came to characterizing IR transparent material in terms of homogeneity, striae, bubbles and inclusions, there was no agreed-upon standard for quite some time.

In 2018, ISO standards were published to solve this problem. These standards explain how you should measure IR transparent material to obtain the properties of interest. At times, ISO standards provide guidelines, which in some cases are hard to implement. Before introducing ISO as a practical focus, SCHOTT established its own internal standard; therefore, we see ISO as a base but interpret it differently.

This presentation will provide an overview on the qualification standards for SCHOTT’s Chalcogenide Infrared glass (IRG) series. The standards covered during this presentation apply to the following glass types IRG 22, 24, 25, 26 and 27. It also includes internal quality inspection (striae and inclusions), internal transmission and refractive index measurements.

Having a narrow view can help compare the different properties, therefore helping you with material selection and a required set of material specifications.
