Lawrence Cary Gunn attended the United States Air Force Academy, receiving his BS in Applied Physics in 1995. He then studied at Caltech, and earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2004. During his PhD work, he founded and worked as CTO of Luxtera, Inc., where he stayed until 2008. Currently, he is the Founder and CEO of Genalyte.

Holding 81 (and counting) issued U.S. patents, Cary has been recognized in publications including the MIT Technology Review, which named him a Top Young Innovator in 2003. Five years later, Cary’s achievements in silicon photonics were awarded with the Adolph Lomb Medal and the Berthold-Leibinger Foundation Innovation Prize.
