Isabel Allegro
Isabel Allegro is a Product Manager in the Semiconductor Division at Jenoptik Optical Systems GmbH, a leading provider of customized optical and micro-optical systems, modules and components. She focuses on micro-optical component and brings a strong background in optics and photonics to her role.
Isabel earned her B.Sc. in Physics Engineering from the Nova University Lisbon in Portugal and her M.Sc. in Optics and Photonics through the international, multidisciplinary program at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany. During her M.Sc. thesis, she worked in the group of Prof. Christian Koos, where she developed a distributed feedback (DFB) laser by integrating an organic dye material onto a patterned silicon nitride waveguide in a silicon photonics platform.
For her Ph.D., Isabel joined the group of Prof. Uli Lemmer at the Light Technology Institute, where she explored recombination processes in perovskite semiconductors and developed a novel nanopatterning approach for perovskite-based DFB lasers. During this time, she also served as a teaching assistant for the course "Optoelectronics" and as a lab supervisor for the "Optical Lithography" laboratory. Additionally, she supervised several B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses, supporting students in their research projects.
Isabel has been an active member of OPTICA since 2015, initially joining as a board member of the student chapter. During her Ph.D., she served as a peer reviewer and helped review applications for OPTICA programs. Since 2022, Isabel has been involved in the “Mental Health Initiative”, a volunteer-driven project organized by students, graduates, and OPTICA ambassadors. This initiative aims to raise awareness about mental health in academia, reduce stigma, and build a supportive global community.
In her free time, Isabel enjoys reading fiction, drawing and painting, knitting, dancing and bouldering.
