Exploring ARIA’s Global Funding Opportunities
09 September 2024 12:00 - 13:00
Eastern Daylight/Summer Time (US & Canada) (UTC -04:00)This webinar will explore global funding opportunities offered by the United Kingdom’s newly established Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA). ARIA is pioneering efforts to support groundbreaking, high-risk research anywhere in the world with the potential to drive transformative change in science and technology.
ARIA’s Dr. Gemma Bale will present its "Forecasting Climate Tipping Points" program. The funding program, which is open to submissions now, aims to demonstrate a compelling proof-of-concept that an early warning system for climate tipping points can be affordable, sustainable, and justified.
ARIA is able to fund projects worldwide, provided there is a demonstrable benefit to the UK. The agency actively seeks innovative ideas from technology sectors such as optics and photonics, with a strong interest in proposals from both industry and academia.
This webinar is hosted by the GEMM Initiative. A joint effort of Optica and the American Geophysical Union (AGU), GEMM brings together community leaders, researchers, and policy professionals to address global climate and environmental challenges.
Join us on 9 September 2024, from 12:00 to 13:00 Eastern Daylight Time (US & Canada) (UTC -04:00).
Speaker:
Dr. Gemma Bale is a Programme Director at ARIA and an Assistant Professor of Medical Therapeutics at the University of Cambridge, leading the Neuro Optics Lab. Her research focuses on developing non-invasive brain monitoring in real-world environments where traditional brain monitoring isn’t usually possible.
Moderator:
Dr. Tomohiro Oda is co-Chair of the GEMM Initiative, and serves as a Senior Scientist and Lead of Global Climate and Environment at Universities Space Research Association’s Earth from Space Institute (EfSI). Oda oversees greenhouse gas (GHG) emission information development at EfSI in response to ongoing, emerging climate and environmental challenges and needs for science-based guidance -- for policy applications.
