This webinar, hosted by the Optoelectronics Technical Group, will present and discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Our presenter, Ryszard Piramidowicz, will briefly introduce key technological platforms of integrated photonics and compare them in terms of their maturity, availability, versatility, and manufacturing costs. Additionally, the major application fields will be discussed in the context of market needs, demands, and global trends driving the further development of PICs.

Particular attention will be given to the perspective of Eastern Europe, specifically Poland. Recent achievements in this field will be showcased, highlighting the chips designed in Poland and manufactured using the generic InP technological platforms available to Polish teams. Furthermore, non-standard platforms developed in Poland, such as SiN and MIRPIC, which enable the extension of the spectral range of operation and address entirely new application fields, will be discussed. Special focus will be given to the MIRPIC platform, which addresses the mid-IR spectral range. The general concept will be presented along with current achievements, including the individual building blocks and the main components library.

Subject Matter Level: Intermediate - Assumes basic knowledge of the topic

What You Will Learn:

  • The current status of PIC market in Europe and worldwide
  • Research trends in developing technology related to PIC

Who Should Attend:
