About the Speaker

Azmina Somani is Jabil's Vice President of Research and Development leading a global, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering cutting-edge photonics solutions for Jabil customers. Recognized as a trail blazer in the optical components industry with exceptional strategic skills as a technologist, Azmina has more than 30 years of experience and expertise developing and delivering state-of-the-art subsystems and modules to the market.

Before joining Jabil in July 2024, Azmina served as Senior Vice President of R&D at Infinera where she oversaw the creation of Coherent ASICs, DSP algorithms, and photonic integrated circuits. Prior to her tenure at Infinera, Azmina held several key positions at Lumentum and JDSU between 2004 and 2020.

Notably, as Senior Vice President of Operations for Lumentum, she successfully transitioned manufacturing operations from Shenzhen, China, to a newly established facility in Thailand. Also, while serving as Senior Vice President of R&D, Azmina broadened the company’s 3D sensing, telecom transmission, datacom, and high-power pump solutions, contributing significantly to Lumentum’s product development strategy and business growth.

Azmina holds an Executive MBA from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management, Ithaca, New York and an MBA from Queen's University, the leading, research-intense university in Canada. She also earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta. Residing in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Azmina balances her professional endeavors with a passion for community service and mentorship.
