About the Speaker
Darren Berns is the CTO and Business Development Leader at IDEX Optical Technologies, bringing over 20 years of experience in technology innovation and product development. With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, Darren specializes in optics, thin film coatings, and advanced photonic systems. His career spans roles in R&D, business strategy, and leadership, with expertise in defense, aerospace, and semiconductor industries. Over his career, Darren has worked in Space Propulsion, Plasma Sciences, BioTechnology, and Photonics, as well as Free Space Optical Communications. With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and wide-ranging experience from large organizations like NASA to small technology startups, Darren currently drives technology and business development for IDEX in areas of advanced material solutions — which includes optics and photonics.
