About the Speaker

Prof. Dr. Michael Kaschke is a German physicist and manager. He is chairman of the supervisory board of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. For many years, he was a top executive in the German high-tech industry, most recently as President and CEO of the ZEISS Group from 2011 to 2020. Under his leadership, ZEISS developed into a successful, future-oriented portfolio company with leading global positions in all hi-tech areas of its businesses. Michael Kaschke has held supervisory board mandates in large, listed companies such as Henkel and Deutsche Telekom. Currently, he is, in addition to other functions, a shareholder of Robert Bosch Industrietreuhand KG (industrial trust), which carries out the entrepreneurial ownership functions at Robert Bosch GmbH. He is also a member of the supervisory board of Robert Bosch GmbH. From 2014 to 2020, Michael Kaschke was a Member of the Wissenschaftsrat (German Science and Humanities Council), one of Germany's most important scientific-political advisory committees. In 2019, he was elected a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, and in 2022 he became president of the Stifterverband (Association for the Promotion of Science and Humanities in Germany). Michael Kaschke also lectures in optical medical technology at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
