Allen Institute Lab Tour

Friday, 22 August 10:00 - 11:30

Allen Institute, 615 Westlake Ave N, Seattle WA

The Allen Institute is a pioneering nonprofit bioscience research institute dedicated to uncovering the fundamental principles of life and driving advances in health. With a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, their scientists focus on answering some of the most complex questions in bioscience, particularly in the areas of the brain, cells and the immune system.

This tour will begin with a general overview of the Institute, followed by two lab visits, each highlighting groundbreaking imaging technologies developed by the Institute's teams.

The first stop will feature the Expansion Assisted Selective Plane Illumination Microscope (ExA-SPIM), developed at the Allen Institute for Neural Dynamics. This innovative platform enables high-resolution imaging of expanded whole mouse brains or other large specimens, allowing researchers to trace fine neural connections across centimeter-scale distances, without the need for tissue slicing.

The second stop will showcase the Scanned Line Angular Projection Microscope (SLAP2), a revolutionary two-photon imaging system designed for speed and flexibility. SLAP2 supports advanced in vivo synaptic and voltage imaging in three dimensions, enabling cutting-edge research into brain activity at the cellular level.

Spots are limited! Sign up when registering for the Optica Imaging Congress.
