Structural colors are generated from nanoscale features of various materials due either to interference or optical resonance effects. The ability to achieve a wide range of colors by simply tuning geometric properties opens fascinating opportunities to the nanoengineer or nanoscientist to design colors using material properties, and nanostructure geometry as input parameters. This physical approach contrasts with the chemical approach for synthesizing pigments and dyes, where colors arise due to optical absorption. Using semiconductor fabrication methods, 2D structures based on metals and high index dielectrics have been realized, e.g. nanodisks, ellipses, etc. defined with electron-beam lithography and vacuum deposition methods.

In this webinar hosted by the Thin Films Technical Group, Joel Yang will delve into advanced techniques and recent innovations in the generation of structural colors through 1D to 4D nanoscale features. Development of new nanofabrication techniques, modification of materials and innovation of design expands the application potentials in structural colors, optical devices and optical security.

What You Will Learn in the Webinar:
• Innovative Techniques in 3D-printed Structural Colors: Understand the use of TPL and other advanced fabrication methods to create nanoscale structures that produce vivid colors without pigments.
• Integration of Structural Colors with Micro-Optical Elements: Learn how to combine structural colors with elements such as microlenses, metasurfaces and spiral phase plates to produce structured light from coherent or incoherent light sources, holographic color prints, and control of the light-field for 3D representation.
• Dynamic Optical Properties: Gain insights into the use of phase-change materials and multi-material switches for applications in optical computing and next-generation display technologies.
• Applications in Photonics and Optics.

Who Should Attend the Webinar:
• Optics and Nanophotonics Researchers: Individuals focused on the research of structural color, structural light and imaging optics.
• Nanofabrication researchers and engineers who work on the development and integration of nano-, micro-optical elements.
• Material Researchers who are interested in developing nanofabrication resin or exploring phase change material characteristics.
