Michel Delhaye was a professor of chemistry at the Technical University of Lille in northern France. Delhaye and his colleagues developed the first Raman microprobe. His research into the development of innovative techniques and instruments for recording Raman spectra led to the launch of the MOLE, the world’s first commercial Raman microprobe, in 1976. He received the 1982 Ellis R. Lippincott Award, "In recognition of his contributions to our understanding of the structure and properties of small polyatomic molecules."
