Jean E. Blaise was Director of Research at the Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique of France at the time he received the 1975 William F. Meggers Award from The Optical Society. The Meggers award recognized, "his contributions to our knowledge of the spectra and atomic structure of the lanthanide and actinide elements and for his pioneering use of the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer for studying hyperfine structure and isotope shifts in heavy atoms." He was also a Fellow of OSA, elected in 1971. He was a pioneer in the use of the scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer for studying hyperfine structure and isotope shifts in heavy atoms.
