Isaak Ya. Barsky receeived his PhD in 1964 from the S.I. Vavilov State Optical Institute (GOI). He received the Vavilov Scientific Technical Society Prize in 1962 and 1979. He, with E.M. Brumberg, was the first to devlop new methods of luminescence microscopy, UV fluorescence microscpoy, and contact microscopy. Barsky was the recipient of the 1994 Joseph Fraunhofer Award/Robert M. Burley Prize alongside Garry V. Papayan, “for outstanding work in the field of quantitative microscopy. Specifically, for the creation of new optical instruments for medicine and biology, thereby advancing the field of optical engineering.”
