Emmanuel Desurvire obtained a MS degree in theoretical physics at the university of Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris, then a PhD and ScD in applied Physics from the University of Nice, France. He is Director of the Physics Research Group at Thales Research and Technology. Previously, he held previous positions at Stanford University, AT&T Bell Laboratories, Columbia University, and Alcatel. He has received numerous distinctions, including the International Prize in Optics (1994), the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Engeneering (1998), the John Tyndall Award (2007), the France-Télécom Prize of the French Science Academy (2007), and the Engineers of the Year Prize (2007). He is also laureate of the Millennium Technology Prize (2008) and of the European Inventor Award (2011). In 2022, he received the VinFuture Grand Prize, together with Sir David Payne, Vinton Cerf, Tim Berners-Lee, and Robert Kahn.
