Alessandro Tredicucci received his “Laurea” degree in Physics from the University of Pisa in 1992. He simultaneously earned the “Diploma” degree from the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, where he also earned the Ph.D. degree in Physics.

In 1997, he joined Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies in Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA in the Semiconductor Physics Research Department. He returned to the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa in 2000. He stayed for three years, and, in 2003, he moved to the Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia as Senior Scientist, later becoming Research Director at the NANO Institute. In 2014, he became Full Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Pisa.

Tredicucci has co-authored over 100 journal papers (with over 3000 citations), has given over 100 invited talks at international conferences, and holds 16 patents. He was the recipient of the 1999 Gilberto Bernardini Award and the 2003 S. Panizza Award for opto-electronics of the Italian Physical Society. He was the recipient of the 2005 S. Campisano Prize, and the 2007 Copernico Prize for physics. More recently, he was awarded the Nick Holonyak, Jr. Award in 2013 and became a Fellow of OSA in 2014. He also won the 2014 Occhialini Medal.
