My story from the Siegman School on Lasers 2022

The Siegman International School on Lasers was a marvelous experience that I know I will never forget. I was so thrilled when I got accepted to attend back in 2020, but due to the worldwide Pandemic COVID-19 it was postponed/canceled. However, I realize that a lot of good things came out of that delay. The class of 2020 was invited to: an online school in 2020, a virtual All-Star school in 2021, and the University of Warsaw in Poland in 2022. It couldn’t have been more exciting!
In brief, the Siegman International School on Lasers is a great way to:
- Meet members of the international optics and photonics community
- Connect with academia professionals, industry experts, and future colleagues in the field
- Present your work through a poster presentation (a free marketing opportunity for a recently published paper!)
- Enjoy social activities and exploring a new country
Personally, the school held in Chęciny, Poland in 2022 was a great opportunity because of its diverse experience. It checked off both technical and educational aspects: I learned more about the newest laser technologies, frequency comb applications, imaging enhancements, machine learning and photonic quantum information. Moreover, coming from a nanofabrication background with little knowledge in many of these fields, it was truly enlightening and educational.
Last but not least, this week-long school included socializing activities and sightseeing opportunities making this experience not only for academical growth but also a great opportunity to network with more than 100 people in the optics and photonics community from all around the world.
