Shannon's profound physical intuition and masterful experimental technique has made a deep impression on her colleagues and the many students she trained in her experimental quantum optics laboratory. She was also a careful and caring teacher, mother and wife, always welcoming and easygoing and yet powerfully driven to get to the bottom of everything she pondered. The Portland and scientific communities mourn both her and her husband Adam's sudden passing.
