To honor the legacy of H. Angus Macleod and amplify his passion for supporting and mentoring students, The Optica Foundation is partnering with the optical coatings community to launch a memorial fund to endow student prizes awarded at the Optical Interference Conference (OIC).

How To Apply

The Macloed student prizes recognize the potential of our next generation of scientists and engineers at Optical Interference Coatings (OIC) meeting.

Individuals opt-in for consideration during the submission process for OIC. The paper must be presented by an undergraduate or graduate student.

Finalists are selected during the Technical Program Committee review process. Winners are selected at the meeting based on paper content quality, presentation skills and overall value to the technical community.

Important Dates

The submitting author must opt-in to the competition during the regular paper submission process and follow all of the instructions provided on the submission site.
Paper Submission Deadline: 24 January 2025

About the Endowment

H. Angus Macleod was a dedicated contributor to Optical Interface Coatings (OIC), having served in many roles since 1991, including member and chair of the Program Committee and as a member of the OIC Advisory Committee.

Macleod, was a renowned researcher, having made significant contributions in the area of thin film optical filters and optical coatings. He was best known for Thin-Film Optical Filters, an introduction to thin-film optical filters for both manufacturers and users, now in its fifth edition. However, Macleod was a prolific author and published over 200 papers in the area of optical coatings, all the while becoming a beloved mentor, collaborator, and colleague to his many students and members within the scientific community.
