In this webinar hosted by the Microscopy and Optical Coherence Tomography Technical Group, Christa Haase will discuss a unique imaging-guided molecular profiling approach called Image-seq.

Understanding the spatial organization and temporal organization of cells remains a major challenge. Further, the integration of single-cell molecular profiling with this cellular spatial localization has remained an elusive goal. Image-seq leverages high-resolution microscopy to spatially resolve and isolate viable bone marrow and leukemia cells for subsequent state-of-the-art, single-cell transcriptomics. Image-Seq has the potential to leverage intravital microscopy to identify cellular subpopulations localized in precise tissue environments, to isolate viable cells of interest, and to perform detailed molecular profiling of those cells, including rare cell populations.

About the Presenter: Christa Haase from Northeastern University

After completing her PhD in Physical Chemistry at ETH Zurich, where she utilized high precision optical spectroscopic techniques to study the hydrogen molecular ion, Christa joined the laboratory of Charles Lin (Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital) for her postdoctoral training. There, she developed Image-seq, a technology that provides single-cell transcriptional data on cells that are isolated from specific spatial positions under image guidance. The technique is compatible with intravital microscopy and makes it possible to integrate the spatial, temporal and molecular information of the target cells. In January of 2024 Christa joined the Departments of Bioengineering and Physics at Northeastern University as an Assistant Professor, where she leads a lab that is focused on developing new optical technologies for studying cellular communication in vivo.
