Denis Simon

Independent Expert on China Science and Business

Formerly, Dr. Simon served as Clinical Professor of Global Business and Technology at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He taught courses and conducted research concerning China's role in the global economy, international business strategy, and global management of technology. He also served as the Director of the Corporate Partnership Program at the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at UNC. Prior to joining the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Simon served as Senior Adviser to the President for China Affairs at Duke University. In that role, he provided advice to the Duke senior leadership regarding ongoing developments and new strategic emerging opportunities in the Greater China region. He also held a faculty appointment in the Fuqua School of Business as Professor of China Business and Technology. Prior to this assignment, Dr. Simon served for five years as Executive Vice Chancellor at Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, China (2015-2020). DKU is an academic joint venture between Duke University, Wuhan University and the Kunshan city government. Prior to joining Duke Kunshan University, Dr. Simon served as Senior Adviser on China and Global Affairs in the Office of the President at Arizona State University. In that capacity, he worked with President Michael Crow and ASU's senior leadership to design and implement the university's overall strategy across Greater China and other strategic locations as relevant. Previously, he also served as Vice-Provost for International Strategic Initiatives at Arizona State University; in that position, he focused on the orchestrating the university's global engagement strategy and cross border relationships. Formerly, Vice-Provost for International Affairs at University of Oregon--responsible for global positioning of university activities around the world. Formerly founding senior faculty at Penn State's new School of International Affairs. Also, served as Director of the Program on US-China Technology, Economic and Business Relations at Penn State.
