Integrated Photonics (PI)

This group focuses on exploring new material platforms, novel nanofabrication techniques, integrated optical components, and the development of large-scale photonic circuits with advanced functionalities for applications including optical communications, optical computing, and quantum information.

Learn More
Laser Systems (PL)

This group’s interests are in the development of novel laser systems in few of high-power, ultra-short laser pulse or ultra-coherent applications such as LIDAR, etc. The group also encompasses microwave and terahertz applications.

Learn More
Photonic Metamaterials (PM)

This group provides a forum for those working on problems related to fundamental and applied aspects of waves in random and periodically nanostructured materials as well as plasmonics.

Learn More
Optical Communications (PC)

This group focuses on developments in the field of optical communications. It deals with optical transmission aspects from chip-to-chip, ultra-short haul to long haul range. It deals with optical networking aspects, coding and decoding of information onto photons, and optical signal processing.

Learn More
Optics for Energy (PS)

All aspects of the use of optics in the energy field are considered by this group. The group encompasses the conversion of light energy into other forms of energy including solar conversion via photovoltaics and photo-thermal processes.

Learn More
Optoelectronics (PO)

This group’s interested in the field of semiconductor lasers, amplifiers, LEDs and super luminescent diodes. Interests include edge emitting and VCSEL lasers, pump laser diodes as well as single photon emitters. The devices may be based on direct or indirect bandgap semiconductors or plastic optics.

Learn More
Photonic Detection (PD)

This group involves the detection of photons as received from images, data links, and experimental spectroscopic studies to mention a few. Within its scope, it is involved in the design, fabrication, testing of single and arrayed detectors.

Learn More
Space Photonics (PA)

This group aims to cover optical observation of Earth from space and space-based optical communication, among other topics.
