Modulight introducing new features for ML6600 Platform: DBR and VECSEL Laser Cores for High Value-Add and Quantum Applications

Tampere, Finland – June 19, 2024 – Modulight Corporation, a pioneering innovator in laser technology, is proud to introduce new products to its ML6600 Platform:  Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) and Vertical-External-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VECSEL) cores in multiple wavelengths. The products are designed specifically for value-add applications like spectroscopy, semiconductor metrology, and quantum applications.

DBR Laser cores

DBR laser cores for ML6600 are available in 650 nm, 760 nm, 780 nm, 785 nm, 795 nm, and 935 nm wavelengths. DBR lasers are ideally suited for a range of quantum and spectroscopy applications. Manufactured entirely in-house, these laser cores deliver reliable high-power operation with a linewidth narrower than 500 kHz. The platform’s design ensures top-notch performance through highest-quality mechanical, optical, and acoustical isolation, combined with ultra-low-noise current drivers and precise temperature controllers.

ML6600 platform offers options for both free-space output and single-mode polarization-maintaining fiber for light delivery. For applications requiring watt-level output power, the DBR output can be amplified using a tapered amplifier, integrated with the DBR seed laser into a DBR-MOPA laser core.

Innovative VECSEL Technology for Trapped Ion Computing

Incorporating Modulight’s in-house  technology, the VECSEL laser cores at 493 nm, 532 nm, and 553 nm are designed to make the ML6600 platform ready for Barium trapped ion applications. The VECSEL cores feature a free-running linewidth of less than 100 kHz with watt-level emission. Linewidth can be further narrowed using advanced techniques such as the Pound-Drever Hall method.

The VECSEL platform offers power-scalable and tunable high-power single-frequency emission, with several advantages as a narrow linewidth laser platform, including robust emission engineering, efficient intracavity frequency conversion, and excellent beam quality. Applications of the VECSEL platform include Ba+ ion Doppler cooling at the S-P transition (493 nm), Ba ion gate seed (532 nm), and resonant two-step photoionization of neutral Barium (553 nm).
